Bloco Novo are proud to present their new costumes.
Designed by specialist carnival costume designer,
EMILY WOOD and the young people of Bloco Novo,
made by young people in the local community.
The designs were loosely based on Xango
(a God from the Brazilian religion of Candomble),
the whirling dervish, carnaval and street wear,
and also on the project's previous colour scheme.
The workshops ran from Monday 6th till Thursday 9th April 2009
and were aimed at young people in Greater Manchester (mainly East Manchester).
Bloco Novo would very much like to thank:-
Emily Wood (Designer) for her relentless planning, design and tuition
Sammie Ricketts (Young Person's Rep for Bloco Novo) for applying for the
funding and aiding the success of the project
Manchester Youth Opportunity Fund -
for supplying Bloco Novo with the funding to carry out the project
All FM for their promotion and support
St Barnabas Church - for allowing us to use their space for rehearsals
as well as for this project."
And all volunteers and attendees of the project for their support and help.
Cheers ears !
Bloco Novo will be holding a showcase for the project
on Thursday 23rd April 2009.
